Is there a psychologist in the Hen House?

I do the opposite, if I need to go in there I do.
The more time you spend in the coop the less disturbance you will be,
they'll get used to your presence and it won't be a big deal.
Not unusual for a bird to set in a nest but not lay until later, especially new layers.
I do the same. My birds are so used to me I can grab eggs from under them. They don't even stir.
LOL. That’s totally how I act around my roosters, but for the ladies, I was just trying to be considerate! Seriously, it seems to me laying an egg is something of a private event, a little miracle worthy of reverence.

I'm relieved to know my presence probably isn’t overly disruptive. I was concerned if delaying “de lay” would be harmful. (”de lay” get it?:lau)

Ah! I didn't know that. I guess I should have, since I'd see one of them setting, then be outside. I'd go in and... nothing. They are still figuring things out. When we went through puberty, we had lots of adults to help us/tell us what to do.

Even older birds will do that.....I call them 'Loungers'.
