Is there a way to deter foxes?

Have not seen or heard the Fox in a month since I seen the Coyotes though so possibly the coyotes killed the Fox or ran them off..Hope these coyotes don't become my problem now..:barnie
Same here! I started seeing my problem fox again, Methuselah as I call him (he's got to be older than dirt), about a month ago. He was taking his usual route through my property so I thought I was going to outsmart him by taking the screen out of my upstairs window and shooting him as he came out in the open. (He always busted me out last year when I was outside trying to shoot him). So the next morning I waited for him at his usual time...nothing. This went on for almost a week so I put out 2 game cams to see if he changed his route. Nope, there is now a coyote roaming the property late at night. Right now I feel more comfortable with the coyote, because I know they aren't nearly as brazen and smart as the fox. For now anyway...

Yes...My Dogs chased off the coyotes so I have not seen them either...:fl..I'm hoping to go next door this weekend with my Husband and see if the Fox have been back to the Den?..New people bought the property next door to the people with the Den and have Dogs too now and doing lots of construction too so maybe the Fox just moved away?....:wee

I wish you would tell my coyotes here they are not as smart and brazen as foxes. They made weekly forays between 10 am and 2 pm for a chicken dinner. My wife saw 3 at 7:30 am howling 50 yards from the house two days ago. Later that evening she saw one watching her put the chickens up. We changed our schedule for ranging the chickens and so have they.
Coyotes have continued the thrive and colonize new areas in spite of man. They inhabit rural and urban settings. Tall fences wont deter them and neither will a lot of pet dogs. I just hope after i bust a few they will learn this is a high risk hunting area. They pay no mind to moving vehicles but when one stops they know a gun is coming out and flee.

Wow, that's crazy! I'm sure it varies by area. The foxes here behave like your coyotes. Hope you can a kill shot on a few. I don't know if there is any truth to this but I have heard if you shoot one and let it lay the other coyotes will avoid the area. :idunno

Old wives tale, people hung them on perimeter fences as a deterent and coyotes still came onto the property. Coyotes are very adaptable. I pen my dogs so they wont chase a coyote and find an ambush waiting in the woods. They can even learn that coyote calls mean a gunshot so call changes are needed.

I don't know what the laws are on killing foxes here, I'm in the UK. I know fox hunting is banned, so I guess it wouldn't be legal. I couldn't do it anyway. I mean cats kill animals for fun but I love cats! Maybe I'll try the bleach thing. We don't have a proper chicken run for her. She has the run bit of her chicken cage but it's not very big. And now that she's on her own, our other chicken died a few months back, I just feel like she needs to be out as much as possible. I'll just have to keep a close eye on her. At the moment, she's running around in the garden with the radio on. After my last post, I did google it and some things that came up did suggest that it can work.
I'd build her a portable run, tractor style, basically a pyramid or box of wire, and move her about the yard every day getting her a new spot.

I could never kill a fox. I really don't like them, they've had enough of my animals over the time, but I couldn't kill one. It's difficult because we have cats and obviously they like to come and go (we have a cat flap). I'm sure I've heard that men's pee or dog poo can help deter them. No idea how true that is.

We had a fox do a "stealth attack" on one of our previous chickens actaully. Well, we were indoors, but the back door was open and we heard a load of squawking. Luckily we got there just in time, although I thought our chicken was dead as she was all cowered down, perhaps playing dead (if they do that), although that chicken was never the same after that.

They just drive me nuts. I wondered if leaving a radio on in the garden while I'm inside might deter them? Our chicken is older now, so I don't really want to spend a fortune.

If I ever see the fox around my chickens I’d kill it with my bare hands
