is there a way to tell if a chicken is to old to lay eggs?

Like someone else said on the other thread, chickens are too social to live alone. she needs a friend ASAP!

See - this shows how little I know... I thought they threw beads at Mardi Gras. If I had known they threw chickens, I'd have gone down to Louisiana for the festivities!!

Ah... but smuggling a Mardi Gras chicken (or 6) back in my carry-on bag will most likely be frowned upon, by the airline if not by my fellow passengers. Too bad for me. Sounds cool, though.
