Is there a way to unbroody my hens? I miss having eggs!

I wish I was kidding with you when I tell you my whole flock....2 buffs, 1 silky & 1 polish have all gone broody. Is there a way to unbroody them? I'll have to buy some eggs from Wal-mart if they don't start laying again!

The standard way is to lock them in a cage with a wire bottom, get some air under their butts. (You could always let just a couple stay broody). I luck unbroodifying my hen by carrying her around a bit. She wriggle free and took a huge broody poop and then took off with the rest of the flock. It is so hot it took her a while to start again- my hens are only laying every other day in this heat.

Thanks! Oh I did think about letting Goldielocks hatch out some eggs, but right now I have 46 three week old chicks! So I am slightly overwellmed in the chick department!!!

How long do I keep her in the wire cage? Her giant yellow self will barely fit into the cage.....I am almost positive that I can't get water in with her....she may have to have several water breaks in this heat!

I do want my eggs again though!

How long... One or 2 day usually. Until they lay an egg.

Please do everything you can to avoid shopping at WALMART!!!! I do not get along with the little smiley bouncy ball at all.

I just get them off the nest any time I catch them there. I know it will take a little while for you to get some eggs again though. Good Luck! How funny that they all wanted to be mommies at once, mine do that too, or they'll get jealous.

Hey there again swedishfish!

And what makes it even funnier....they all want in the same nesbox! I have 4 to choose from and when they were laying the hens would wait in line for this nestbox and now they all sit on top of each other in there!!!!

Last year I had the same thing happen. Even had different hens. Only laid in the 1st nestbox and I have 3 go broody at once and all sat on top of each other.

And the nestboxes are all EXACTLY the same.............silly chickens!
