Is there any ground cover vegetation that can grow where chickens hang out?

I have an area about 500 sq ft that the chickens hang out in the most and it's just dirt. The rest of my yard has the typical grass lawn but this one area has been reduced to dirt. It's on a slope so I'd like to have something rooting in it to prevent erosion. Is there anything that could survive?

What is said above is very much correct. With some of my more chicken sensitive plants I place a chicken pen over them to keep birds out and away from. I also set aside a area that is out of direct site that is acceptable for them to scratch up for dust bathing and loitering when not foraging. That location is a patch of sweet sumac with fescue understory but even that is stressed during the latter parts of summer. The like shaded areas that get wind and allow good view of surroundings. Make so those are areas you do not mind having scratched up.
