Is there any hope GRAPHIC PIC

I gave him a bath this morning, now he is all fluffed up and I got a better look see. If I'm not mistaken that is umbilical not intestines, so I think there is still hope. For the moment he is still in the bator by himself with food and water.

One thing is that that is NOT an umbilical cord because chickens dont have them. That could be intestines or some other thing that should be inside a chickens. Best thing is to cull him. he cant go with the other chicks cause theyll pick at it.

I'm sorry to say that he didn't make it. He was doing good, eating, drinking and pooping. But all of a sudden today he took a turn and passed this afternoon. Thank you for all your help and support.

Most likely that was just the lining of the egg and a little bit of left over yolk that needed to be absorbed. If you look closely at the first picture you can see a little area where it almost seems to thin a little, that's where the yolk sac starts. You can tie a piece of string or dental floss here to cut the blood supply and prevent bleeding (like an umbilical cord) if necessary, and the yolk sac will generally disappear quickly after that. Unfortunately, the chick probably died from infection due to the washing and handling due to that open area. If this ever happens again, apply a wet paper towel to the area and stick him back in the bator. I personally tie my chicks off that have this problem and cut the extra off.
