Is there any hope this Orpington is a hen?

Well, you can't go by the legs on BBS Orps. My pullets usually have tree trunk legs.

BBS means Blue/Black/Splash. The Buff Orp males feather in just as fully as the females. Not so with the BBS Orps for some reason. There is just a huge difference in the color varieties.

I'm anxious to sex the black one for sure since if its a roo, Im trading it in for a hen, most likely this week. But if its a hen I SO want her, I love her to bits! I'm keeping the Blue either way. He's a sweetheart.

Beautiful birds ! To sex a hen or roo does one have to do the blood thing through a vet ? Newbie and learning here .

Heck, no. Most vets know zilch about chickens. You learn from the sex characteristics that start popping up as they start growing. Some breeds can be sexed by color differences between male and female, though not Orpingtons.
