The best advice I can give is to keep him indoors/in the dark - till the neighbors are at work or don't care about the crowing. This is what I do.
The only problem with that is that roosters need to be photo-stimulated just like hens - to be fertile.

Ok, thanks for all the replies guys! So i guess it's a unanimous agreement that it's not possible. (apart from keeping in darkness)....oh well then... we'll see what happens... I've got 10 chicks right now, one of which im positive is a boy, and im thinking maybe one or two more that are also boys. I'm not a huge fan of culling, but i guess it can't be avoided... oh well. ><

Take a wire loop and put around his neck and make it tight enough he cant expand his windpipe to crow.

It's possible to devoice a rooster and the best method I've seen is the same method used to devoice peacocks. I have the instructions somewhere which were given to me by Loyl Stromberg. If someone were to breed a rooster that doesn't crow, he or she could make a fortune.

I think Xilver was just saying that a capon was, to her, basically the same as a hen that doesn't lay.
