Is there any way to keep a rooster quiet?

Check out “crow collars”. Amazon has them for maybe $20. It hasn’t “stopped” my rooster from crowing but it is quieter and less frequent. I’m sure he isn’t thrilled about it but he is also alive and not in my freezer.
Plan B is to move to the country and leave those neighbors in the dust.

I live in the country and still had to deal with the *one* person in the area that hates roosters. We got rid of him and everyone else around asked where he went, and missed his crowing. Then half my flock got killed cuz he wasn't there to protect them...
I rehomed the rest of my girls, worked on a better plan, and will have to fight for my rooster in the future if need be. I love roosters.

Where I am roosters ARE technically legal.

Often where in towns and technically legal they fall under the noise ordinances like a barking dog would.

I choose not to keep one in order to keep the peace.

Down the street there is one. He crows of course. While I was out in my front garden the next door neighbor started complaining about it to me.
All I could do was point out that it was far quieter than the neighborhood dogs and crowed far less than they barked too.

I’d say don’t have a rooster. Like you said, It’s unfair to your neighbours as they could be home at any time of the day. Roosters can’t not crow. Maybe you could just order chicks or eggs instead?

All of these sound like the rooster won’t have a very great life. So I guess I won’t be able to get one

The rooster will be fine with the crow collar. It has been reviewed and is completely humane. It’s better then eating the rooster? Lol . The only thing is the collar cost just as much as the rooster itself depending on what kind of rooster you have, but it’s worth it if you want fertilized eggs and protection!

I personally wouldn't use the crow collar. It will make the rooster uncomfortable and I believe it is kind of cruel. If you're not allowed to have roosters in your area, you probably shouldn't get one. You could get in a lot of trouble with the police if the neighbors report you. Sorry.

I've heard of crow collars, haven't used them. I have a rooster and not supposed to. Neighbors are cool though. He will crow all day long. In the winter I give heat lamp below zero, if anything makes him while the lamp is on he will crow all night too.
He needs his voice to lead his flock. He has warned of many dangers over this year.
Plus if you wanted to hatch clicks there is 50% chance they would be roosters so problem might get worse.
