is there anyone who guarantees shipped eggs?

Tonight I tossed 20 eggs out of 36 on day 7. They had either blood rings, were scrambled or clear. I don't even bother to crack them anymore. It does make every egg and every chick more precious...and expensive....that's for sure.

Some of the eggs came from someone I have purchased eggs from before and only tossed 2 out of 18...so you never know. I'm resigned to shipped eggs to be able to get the kind of quality birds I'm looking for...even if I only get 30-40% of them past day 7.

For hatching percentages, I use the number that I set on day 18 minus the ones that don't hatch by day 24.

I have recived about 20 batches of shipped eggs and I have had 4 of them with none hatching and about 7 where i only got 2 to 3 chicks hatch and the other 9 batches 5 to 10 hatch so it's a risk, I have spent around $300.00 to $350.00 on shipped eggs this year.

my best hatch was 16 of 18 ducks and have had none hatch a few times

I have had AWFUL results with shipped eggs. Of all the batches (and I won't even count them up-- I can't stand it) I have had TWO babies actually hatch. One welsummer roo, and with a later batch another welsummer that I was SURE was going to be a girl. But she died.

I just finished a hatch today with all local eggs. Of the 16 I put in the 'bator to begin with, 10 made it to the hatcher. (4 clears and 2 quitters) All ten hatched out beautifully. I am just so tickled!

hollybird, I PM'd you to talk about maybe trading some eggs. I've been looking for someone in Oregon to trade with, or buy from.

I've also been searching for some nicely colored EE eggs to buy locally- but I found some really good looking ones in VA, and I'm buying them... I'm SO weak.

I guarantee all my eggs, but only they will get unbroken eggs. No way would I guarantee the hatch rate.

Some eggs do better in shipping than others. Peafowl and turkey eggs are hard to hatch anyway,without shipping.

Quail, Pheasants(ringneck), Guineas. Have been my best I have shipped.

Have shipped a few free Guineas egg with peafowl egg,so buyer can us the keet as teacher chicks, and had 100% hatch(Guineas)

I alway look at like 50% is a good hatch on shipped eggs.

Find out a few thing about the seller. How do they store them,temp.,do they turn them, How old are they when shipped.

Dont have them ship after Wednesday. May end up setting over the weekend.

Chicken eggs have never ship or received them. Not sure how they do.

It is my opinion that the biggest problem with having eggs shipped is the change in air pressure during air shipment.

I'm new at this, but my first set in the bator was from 4 sources 3 sources set one day 1 source set a day earlier, all had set, bator up 2 days prior, room temp stable etc....I had developement in all batches, but only one egg develop in one of the sets, all of my chicks that actually hatched were 6 all from the same seller and it was the cheapest set of eggs...2 of these did die...I had raised the humidity as the first was sticky and drowned the others, 2 others of hers pipped but died...In short the cheapest set which traveled the furthest I had 100% develop to at least day 12 at which point one quit, the rest all candled developed with movement at day 20 since first chick was sticky and no one else hatching but alive I raised the humidity and drowned several...but even then I still have 4 chicks out of 14....but nobody from any of the other eggs...I think the PO is the biggest factor!

it can be disappointing - especially if you have kids wanting the chicks to hatch. i hate to think of the money i have spent on eggs this last year but it is worth it to me if i get one chick - that makes me happy and what is really cool is that single bird seems to be friendlier in my humble opinion. it was interesting to read about the $35 welsummer or the $100 red dorkwing. i never looked at it like that but i have a few $45 silkies - roosters even. but they are so cool. i hope it works out for you.
also i notice that out of my coop i get a 100% hatch rate. but the shipped eggs - if i'm not patient and put the eggs in before they had enough time for their air cells to settle the hatch is screwed. i have had hatch rates at 5% - 85% on shipped eggs. it just all depends...... on what, well who knows.... it just depends.
