Wow! That is horrible!
I honestly don't know what I would do if that happened to me.. for one all the birds are outside quite a ways from the house, and none of us have cell phones, which would require leaving the people with the animals while I called the police.. which would not really work. I am so glad that the law interfered and you are ok
I had a similar expirience, but the other way around. My mom and I were looking for a buck goat to have our doe bred, but we couldn't find anyone that had stud services up, after a month of looking, we found some Alpines up for stud services about an hour away, so we contact the guy, he gives us a price and says that we can keep the buck for several months to make sure the job is done. So my dad, my mom, and I drive out there. His driveway was full grass, and rarely used, now I'm not one to judge an adults living quarters really, but if you remember Fred Sanford's front yard from Sanford & Son? This was way worse, and none of it was really even antiques. The whole place really, it looked like even his house was in very bad shape. Turns out the goats are malnurished, all of them, and the feed they get is disgusting. He fed them a handful and they gobbled it down like they hadn't eaten in weeks, poor things. And he had a dog, which was obviously abused because it cowered and wimpered when he came near it, although I don't know if it was because he did it or not. Anyway, I would not get out of the vehicle because just that being in that guy's precense was so uncomfortable. My mom and dad go out, and my dad is looking at some old vehicles and the guy takes a hand gun out of his pocket and shows it to my mom. He says 'Oh won't worry, its just a BB gun'. Well, both my parents own hand guns, as well as many rifles and shotguns, everyone in my family owns atleast one gun, and we're all avid hunters, and I can tell you that his gun did not shoot pellets or BBs. I have no idea why he would even take a gun out, but it may have been to ensure that we had to pay him for his goat since we came and he needed the money or something. Because really, after seeing the buck, we probably would have just left, but we didn't want to cause trouble so we took him.
So, not to start up the whole guns vs. no guns, but I have to agree with Spooky, that not everyone should be allowed to own one.
