Is there anyone you didn't feel comfortable selling to?

Or I'm picking up their mail, or they're dropping something off the kids made for me.. They're around all the time.

This story reminds me of how my cousin and his family treat animals. He's not freaky scary this this family is, but they have treated animals terribly. In the past few years they've:

* bred dogs & dumped the unwanted ones
* bred rabbits & allowed the kits fo die
* gotten guinea pigs and other small rodents, then dumped them in the green space behind their home

God only knows what else they've done that the rest of the family doesn't know. They treat pets like they're disposable, and don't respect them whatsoever. It sounds like this family would have done the same thing: that girl would have tired of the quail in a few days and they would have thrown the surviving ones away or put them outside "because they're wild animals".

Good for you for telling them no and standing up to them.

Seriously, what a horrible situation for you. Ugh. But you know, I feel badly for the girl, too. Either she has had horrible guidance (or lack of) from her parents to be allowed to act that way, or she has some sort of special need that causes her to act that way. Either way, not her fault. And now she is in foster care. Even if her parents were horrible, and even if the foster family is wonderful, that's still a very, very traumatic thing for a child to have to go through.

I really have a hard time wrapping my brain around how those people could have acted that way? How does someone come into your home and do that??!! Over a couple of birds?

So sorry....I hope that the situation resolves itself quickly for you, and with little fuss.

I've always been a little on the paranoid side, but this makes me think even more about letting people come up to the farm to buy. I do have 3 large pit bulls, and they do run the perimeters of the farm. I always make sure to tell people that I need to know exactly when they are coming so that I can put the dogs away. I hope that the knowledge that I have patrolling dogs will deter anyone who has less than honest intentions...and I've had a couple of people never show and never contact me again, after giving them directions and setting up at time to come up. Kinda freaky.

So far though I have only had good experiences with selling birds off of my farm. Several of those have been BYC members!!

I've also met a few local people this way who have been great. I hope it stays this way!

I've been thinking about this thread a lot and am really, really glad you weren't injured. It sounds like the legal intervention caught their attention.
