I didn't think there was an animal around that would eat milkweeds but my ducks are out there chomping them down! My chickens never even noticed them but since they have to have what the ducks have, they are eating them too! Of course the flowers are loaded with all types of insects they they are actually eating the leaves too!

I guess my ducks are weird then. I have mallards and they are with my chickens who will eat just about anything, but my ducks, while they do mimic a lot of what the chickens do, they won't eat any treats I bring out to them. Nothing, nada, zip. Not lettuce, not fresh veggies, nothing. They watch the chickens gobble it up, but they won't touch it unless it's tossed in the water dish. Cause oh, did I mention? My ducks won't go in water. We put them in the water, they shoot back out. But they will splash around endlessly in their water bowl while the chickens stand there and stare at them as though they are insane. My mom was out with them this afternoon and she said the ducks followed the chickens over to my mulberry bush and were pulling leaves and berries off the lower branches like the chickens were doing. I'm surprised there was anything left since the chickens hit that tree every day! I am wondering, will they eat more treats and stuff as they get older, or is this just a mallard trait? Or are my birds just plain weird? I want to get runners soon and I'm wondering if they will be weird too...

I emptied out the remains of a bag of feed yesterday and a mouse fell into my bucket. So I just emptied it into a feeder. I was guessing that a chicken would get it, but minutes later, a juvenile Muscovy comes running out of the barn with the mouse in her beak. She had a hard time deciding what to do with it. Dipped it in the pond once or twice and finally swallowed it.

I am inclined to think that ducks (and chickens) will eat almost anything.

My ducks LOVE squash. But, I shred it first, & put it into a pan with water. They gobble it down. They also love watermelon, & will eat the heart as well as most of the rind. I was beginning to wonder what to do with all the zucchini (there's only so many recipes you can make with it), when I tried it on the ducks. As chunks, or sliced they weren't interested, but shredded is a different story.
