Is there someone familiar with raising light Brahma

Thanks to all very helpful I’m not sure if will look into getting one in the future unless a buff color white birds stick out like sore thumb poor little thing! But I do like the docilness of them.

So sorry about your chicken's loss! I have raised a few light brahmas from chicks that are now over a year old and I must say they are poor free rangers and don't care about foraging as most other breeds. Marans seem to be the same way too I've noticed.

I raised some Light Brahmas in the past few years and I never noticed any of this behavior from them as chicks or young pullets. They all were very alert and great foragers. Maybe it was the line you got

Yeah I only had them a little lazy like when they were 4 weeks and under but have heard or it going as long as 8 weeks.

My brahmas are definitely not as lazy as the marans. My marans don't really care for grass and the other breeds destroy it.

There's no way to know now if the chick was ill or just laid back.
Saying it was 'bad breeding' is a pretty big stretch.
Larger breeds are usually slower and more docile,
but behavior overall has more to do with an individual bird.

The LB chicks I had were skittish and hated to be held,
no matter how much I handled them(and it was a lot),
they never stopped struggling to get away and vocalizing loudly their dissent.
But both those birds, one in particular, later(~4-6mo) would come up to me and want to be touched and picked up. It really surprised me. SMH. They only did that for a few months then seemed to get over that touching/holding stuff, but were always first in line for treats.

I love LB because of the way they look, the white and black, but they were lousy layers(2-3 eggs per week) and ate a ton. My first LB I got as adults with my first flock, they were mellow but not 'friendly'. They were also rather clumsy, as big birds can be, had to enlarge the nest perch for them as they had trouble navigating a 2x2 and put up ramps. Big eaters and lousy layers, they made great stew. I ended up selling the LB I hatched as pets to someone with little kids instead of eating them.
