I've heard they're all demons, for the most part

i 'd like a couple prod rir roos, but..........................

i plan on trying to tame them, IF i end up getting some

Ones that aren't hatchery bred/quality/stock

True to type, heritage and/or show quality RIR's are quite good in temperament, I've never heard someone complain of them being aggressive or mean.

No....okay, well they are nice in Rooster and dumplings. And I don't feel bad cooking them!!! I had about seven in the mixed flock I got in the spring.....at 22 weeks they all got mean and hateful and went on to freezer camp.

Love my Buff Orpington and my Barred Cochin. Have a Barred Rock roo that will go the way of the wild goose in the spring unless he changes his attitude. I will try a heritage Barred Rock and see if I have better luck.

It all depends on how your rear them. I have 2, one is not a pet so to say but a good boy not aggressive. The other, he is one of those you can reach down and arm up anytime he comes around. It's all in how you treat them as chicks to full adulthood. I've had many a hatchery type RIR(pro red) roos and none of them ever jumped on me, now they are usually the king of the flock, though. My buddy had one, he was not evil but he didnt want you messing with him either, but he was not raised with hands on training either if you know what I mean.

There is, but how often you find them, I dunno.

I got this guy at chick days at TSC - as hatchery as you can get. I also had a second one that was a roo. He walked the green mile when he got too obnoxious to the girls.

This guy is HUGE, but very nice to the girls, and avoids people contact by just hanging around out the way when we tend to the chickens, even if my daughter (3 y/o) is in there. That's fine by me.

I don't plan to "tame" him, but I like him to just leave us alone, as we leave him alone. The rest of the roos in the freezer would rather try to dominate us, which didn't bode well for them...
