What bothers me is not necessarily the volume, but the cause. For instance, if a dog is barking ALL DAY AND NIGHT, it's usually because of neglect. Screaming, crying children, too. Even if not as voluminous as a carpenter working, laughing children, or roosters crowing. A party doesn't bother me, as the cause is positive. But anything borne of negativity, neglect, ignorance or inconsiderateness is awful.
Aside, I never did like to be woken up early in the morning. I'm self-employed and have overseas clients, so I'm here all the time and work with the noise or quiet. Always thought I wouldn't be able to keep a rooster. BUT, mine are very well behaved!!! They don't crow in the coop at all. Maybe once or twice in the afternoon if they hear something which inspires it. But that's it. If any of the neighbors complain-- that is, approach me upfront, I will re-home them. I'm allowed, but I'd rather not be a crappy neighbor. FYI, I have a cochin, BO, and leghorn.
