Is there truly a BLUE egg?

Thanks! Where can you get a cream crested legbar? That is a new breed to me.
I have had every type of 'ameracauna', and had read that the blue wheaten's eggs were the bluest, and after patiently waiting 8 months, they came out the same mint green, much to my dismay.
Oh rats! I run into this problem all the time with my Black Copper Marans. I am constantly on the hunt for the darkest brown egg and whilst my hens currently are laying a lovely egg, it's not the bittersweet chocolate color that I yearn for!
Cream Crested Legbars are available from Greenfire Farms if you want chicks but there are several places that sell hatching eggs. Check around at the hatcheries and see, or go to the Legbar thread on here and see who recommends anything. I love my CCL hen very much.

A “super blue egg layer” is a type of Easter Egger. Have you checked out breeders in your area or state or have you had just hatchery birds? It’s possible you haven’t had true ameraucana birds but birds with a mix leading to more of a green egg?

I would find a breeder within driving distance and you can see the eggs that they hatch firsthand.

A purebred Ameraucana lays blue eggs, not green because green results from a brown egg gene in the mix which Ameraucanas don't have. Mine lays very pale blue. It's hard to get a good pic. I don't have any white layers to compare to so I threw in a green duck egg for comparison.

thanks! I have gotten the Ameracaunas all over the place, local stores, friends, etc. Does your CCL lay blue-er eggs than your Ameraucaunas in your experience?

Also do you have photos of your eggs? I’m curious if your mint green tint is what we all settle for blue. :)
I don't have a photo of my past eggs, I currently have 2 ameracaunas that are 6 months old that haven't started laying yet. And I am beginning to think that my pale mint green eggs are what everyone is settling for and calling "blue"

So just curious, is the egg in the middle of that plate what you consider blue?

I had a copper maran once, and LOVED the pretty eggs. I heard the Welsummer lays an even darker brown, do you have any experience with those?
