@Katlinalyssa - Yes, canned if you have it. They love some smelly canned cat/dog food. If nothing else, grab a can at the dollar store if you are able. We've trapped them with canned chicken or tuna as well. Just pop the lid off and slide it to the back.

Opossum based on walking method. Opossums look like walking on stilts while a similar sized rat will appear to have shorter legs that are more bent when walking. Color and body shaped covered.

It's a opossum, no doubt. We have plenty of them around here. If they were the bloodthirsty chicken killers some here seem to think they are, I probably wouldn't have any chickens. They just amble on past the coop/run in all my game cam pics.

they have taught me that coons can squeeze in through a 3 1/4 inch crack.

3 1/4" is a gap, not a crack, and a perfect door for critters.

That's why you build a Fort Knox to protect your chickens at night, complete with pen skirt. That way it doesn't matter if you have predators running around.
