Cute lil' itty-bitty! And definitely a lot smaller than the rest; feathering looks about the same age, so you may very well have a bantam there. At our feed store, I have sometimes seen them take a solitary chick that was "left over" when all of its sibs were bought, and put it in with another group of chicks of a different breed but same age. A lone chick tends to get depressed and cry a lot, so it's a gesture of kindness . . . but it can lead to some interesting surprises later on!

"Um . . . honey, this chick really needs to shave its legs?" (Actually happened--bunch of new chicks, one lone cochin and the rest bare-legged--my poor husband waiting for me to stop laughing and tell him what was so funny.)

That's a darling chick.

Shame on your feed store for deceptive advertising. Straight run is a mix of sexes, but if the sign says "egg layers", a lot of people are going to assume that means the chicks in the bin are going to lay eggs.

What a lil hunny!
