Cuckoo Marans are a rare breed of chicken that has black and white banded feathers similar in appearance to a barred rock. The males are lighter colored than females. The maran's eggs are a distinctive dark chocolate brown color. These are clean-legged, single comb birds. Average mature weight: roosters 8 lbs., hens 7 lbs.

I'm in NO way any kind of expert on this... but she looks just like my two Dominiques. She's very pretty!

yes, I went through this a while back. I turned out to have a barred rock. However, I also was enlightened that dominiques do not lay dark brown eggs, only a light brown like my barred rock.

So I would have to agree that you have at least a Maran mix.

Pretty hen !!

She is a dominiques. That looked like a pea comb to me also, but it is a rose comb. hers is small because she is female.

Perhaps a Dominque/CM mix? I think there's a CM roo making the rounds pretending to be a different breed. I bought a BR pullet from a guys who buys hundred from the hatchery. Found out when she started laying #4 eggs on the maran egg chart, that she's a CM. She's my best layer. XL/Jumbo round eggs every day, since she hit 6 months.
