Love all the pics! I had an aquarium for years but did not set it back up when we moved this last time. I miss it. It's nice being able to look at all of your lovelies though!

I have always kept my Betas in their own tanks. Mostly because I was unaware that they could go into a big aquarium with other fish. I had 3 for a few years in their own various shaped vases and when the last one died, I waited and asked for a small aquarium and a new Beta for Christmas. The one I bought yesterday, to replace my Christmas present, is alone in his 3 1/2 gallon tank and seems quite happy.

I had a gorgeous blue beta that we named Bluey.

At first he lived alone but we moved him into a 10 gallon aquarium with other fish. We were told not to put more aggressive fish with him because they could bite at his flowing fins.

Bluey would notice when I was in the room and follow me so he would get treats. If I left the room and came in the other door, he would notice and swim to that end of the tank. He would swim along the tank with me if I walked back and forth. The other fish never learned to do that.

Unfortunately the whole tank got sick and many died including Bluey when they caught Ick from a new fish. We learned the hard way about the need to quarantine fish before adding to a community tank.

Unfortunately most stores carry sick fish and do not medicate their tanks. I've gotten better fish direct from breeders through the mail and that's the way I am going from now on. I'd rather pay some money in shipping and have live fish in the end.

I agree 100%. You look at the petstore fish long enough they all have white mold on there sides from all the nets going in the same tanksand ick is on almost all of them.

Thankfully my pet store is different. I go to Jack's Aquarium and Pets. While I do see a dead fish here and there, they do medicate their fish when needed and every so often I will see tanks with signs that say "These fish are not for sale today."
