Is this a beautiful fish or what?

It was $28 for the two fish which included the heat pack. Both are still very healthy and happy. Sure you can get them cheaper in the store but the two I bought really have a unique color that I have not seen in general retail.

Wow thats not too bad

This isn't going to work, just FYI.

I totally agree, and that is why I originally asked the question.

Actually, i have had goldfish in with cichlids, parrot fish, all kinds of fish. it worked fine for me.

LOL, Yes, the goldfish is a koi (spelling)

This isn't going to work, just FYI.

It IS possible to keep other species with cichlids. As long as the species is not overly aggressive and the other non-cichlid species are not small enough to be eaten.

koi and goldfish give off a lot of ammonia in their water and can't have a lot of other breeds of fish in with them because of that. because carp (koi/goldfish/pond comets, etc) give off a lot of ammonia they also shouldn't be given to reptiles often as food-they can be toxic to them.

Shay it actually looks like a shubunkin(sp) you have there, does it have whiskers at the corner of it's mouth? if it does you have a koi, which will need a lot more space-they can get very large. if it doesn't have the whiskers it is probably a shubunkin and should be fine in something like you have it in already-they shouldn't get very large-maybe 6" long.

pretty bettas in the OP. i'd love to see more with those colors and fins coming to the states!

Your right, this one does not have any whiskers.

The one i had before, it was a black koi. so awsome. i got him for a pond that i had, but it kept jumping out, so i put him in my 50 gallon tank with all my others, i had a lot of tropical in with it, i just kept up on checking my ph and all that, they were together for about a year.
The reason i dont have them today is well becouse of what happen with my house.

yeah, i remember.

boy! you had a black koi! i was told by my local pet store that they are not sought after and don't make it to the pet stores often. i was finally able to get him to find one from his supplier and it ended up getting SVC from an infected fish i bought off ebay that i stupidly did not quarantine and noticed the patch on it after i had it in the tank. i lost all my koi i was waiting to eventually move to my pond when i had it in the gound. i'll be waiting to get more once i get my pond in the ground and running before i'll be adding koi again.

anyone looking on ebay for koi, use caution (as in most things you buy on there). there are only 2 places i would recommend getting koi from on there and they don't post many at a time. one tests for SVC and other things, and the other is a breeder of show fish from a closed pond that he also tests before he sells.
