Hi. This is my first time incubating eggs. I am using a cheap chinese incubator, and thus the temps are not very uniform and I expect the mortality rate to be quite high. I am wondering, is this a blood ring? Should I discard this egg?

Sorry, the picture is not detailed enough to say blood ring. It's not always easy to get good detailed pictures with a sharp focus.

But, if you do no see any veins and the egg has been incubated for five days, it has died; discard.

If incubation is less than five days, do not discard yet.

My first question would be what day are you on?
Many days has this egg been incubating?

When I took this picture it was only on day 3. (I know it's too early to candle, I will try to resist)
Something intresting is that the red line has been growing longer, but not branching out like veins.

I would call it a quitter.
Just keep it in and watch it for another day or two but a straight line like that usually means quitter.
Give me a minute to dig. I think I have a couple of videos of quitters that look exactly like this.

I'm not sure if you are aware but many incubators built-in thermometers are not correct.
It would be wise to go purchase another thermometer today to make sure your incubator is running a good temp.

Overheating kills.

I have two extra thermometers. The problem is that I was two eager with pytting in the eggs, so i didn't really calibrate the machine before. This batch will probably not be very successful, but a good learning opportunity either way.
