Ok here's how the little guy looks as of right now. Do you think I should widen the hole around his face some more and take a bit more shell off? He is yawning less. he's chirping up a storm. I did get a candling picture.

I think if it were me I would work on uncovering the face area. I wouldn't go too awfully far because it looks like there are some pretty good size active veins in that candling picture.
At this stage I would be concerned that if it was able to turn to try and zip it could block its air supply.
You know best from what you're looking at though.. again it's hard to tell in the picture if the duckling is going to be stuck or not.

Peeping up a storm is good though! Means it's strong.

I will work on uncovering the face area a bit and moisten the membrane and see from there. He has been pecking away but no shell has came off. Yes there are some large veins present near the bottom. I think he still has quite a bit of absorption to do.

Ducks can be darker than the shell and it shows through.

Here’s what the little guy looks like this morning. I took a little bit more shell off around his face. He is quacking and rocking. He still has some veins to absorb so I’m waiting patiently.

I had someone check on the little guy about an hour ago. Said he was chewing away and doing well. His bill is still through the hole and completely visible

I won’t be home for a little bit but I had someone check him again and they sent me a video. They said he’s doing good and peeping. He did break a small blood vessel on his own though. It appears there is a little bit of blood. Here is a screenshot from the video. They said the blood is dry now I hope it won’t effect him.
