The cockerel that I'm curious about.

As compared to the pullet which I know is a Buff Orp.

And as compared to a Barred Rock & what I suspect is a White Rock (It's not much bigger then the other birds, although this picture makes it look that way).

I'm thinking he is a buff plymouth rock, the legs are really yellow when compared to the pink of your confirmed Orp.

Wow, I don't know how I didn't notice the difference in shank color! When they were chicks, they had been the same (or at least I'd thought so). Any idea when the legs between the two breeds begin to look different? Or was it subtly different from the get go?

they are born different colours, Buff rocks and the rock family have yellow legs and orpingtons have a steel grey colouring to the legs like Sussex have white and Silkies have black

That's a rock! Orpingtons have very pale pink legs where Rocks have yellow.

Well, I gotta say I learned something new today. :) Wish they would have put that on the hatchery supplemental video instead of "They are very hard to distinguish from the (insert Buff Orpington or Buff Rock here, depending on which video you are watching)."

i dont want to sound rude , but my orps have grey legs, like silver , gun metal grey. I thought all orps had this colouring on the legs. The pics you posted are clearly yellow, which would indicate a cross brred?

What kind of Orpington do you have waynem? If you have a blue, lavender, or black Orpington, then yes they have grey slate legs. But when speaking of buff, the breed standard has pale pink I believe :)
