Is This A Buff Orphington?

Not a buff orpington. This is mine for comparison. They all look alike.

Well, in the interest of fairness, I suspect the original poster's girl would look more like yours (except the legs), were she a healthy bird.

I frankly was appalled to find out that she was only 9 months old.

And there's a lot of variation among the hatchery girls. (My daughter tells our BOs apart "by their faces", LOL.)

Okay so everyone is saying that they were suprised that she was only about nine months old, but why?

I can tell mine apart individually! And i have 13 hens!:p

BTW I messed up the age she was a year and nine months old. I am still confused why everyone was surprised, does she look older or something?

Yes, to me she looked worn out. Pale comb, feathers faded and tattered, not alert, eyes not bright. (Granted, they don't look too perky when they're dust bathing, and it could just be a bad photo.)

My girls at 9 months looked much more like post #31, although my daughter would say they all have own unique faces, and I've observed differences in their combs.

Below are my original 6 BOs, around 9-10 months in winter.
And the remaining 3 from last winter - they turned 4 in April. Note the comb color. The 2 on the ends were active layers at the time of this photo. (The one in the middle didn't molt last fall and has rarely laid an egg in her lifetime.) The one on the right died a week after her 4th birthday. :( :( She looked fine the last night she went in the coop - I'd checked her specifically from comb to feet before letting her go in for the night.

But the same goes for other breeds (I now have a mixed flock).

I'm sorry for your loss - I'm sure you loved her loads, and that she was a really sweet hen. <3

We still miss Lily - small, frail looking BO, who consistently laid jumbo sized eggs.
