Hi all. Well, we've already concluded that Tiny is a boy so crowing is a distinct possibility. He's almost 9 weeks old.

I woke up this morning to the strangest sound. At first I thought the cats were up to something but it turns out they were all in the room with me. This odd noise seemed to be coming from the basement where the chicks are (really need to finish that coop!). It's hard to describe but the closest I can get is a squeeky hampster wheel with lots of sudden starts and stops. They were all really short, maybe a second or two but some were really close to eachother and some were more spaced out. By the time I was fully awake and trying to track the noise down it stopped. I've heard it once since then and it's definantly coming from downstairs.

But whenever I go down, nothing...

I've scanned through a lot of first crow pages on here but I never found anyone describe them as squeeky... But whatever it was, it was loud enough to be heard from across the basement, through the door and up the stairs.

So, do you think this was a crow or maybe something else?

I think it was a crow attempt. My "Mable" started crowing about the same time too. His name is now "Mister Mable" if you please....and he hasn't shut up since.

I used to have a very small Japanese bantam roo that had a very high pitched crow, almost squeeky. It was a very interesting sound when he was still practicing

First crows can be squeaky. It almost sounds like the little guy has a sore throat.

We laughed so hard when my first chick crowed...we all cried when all the other ones did too.

I have one TINY little bantam, coming up on 8 weeks. (She) already has the biggest and brightest comb of the 9 of them, so I'm anxious to hear if he/she starts a squeaky crow! If so, it should be soon!
