Is this a fox or coyote?

Caught this suspicious character on the trail cam. I can't really tell if it is a coyote or a red fox. Never seen that much red on a coyote, yet its built more like one than a fox... and not a very bushy tail. Sorry for the blurriness of the pics but it was on the move, and I tried to enlarge the pics which made it even grainier.

My gut says young coyote.

I agree with sourland. It looks too big to be a fox, and the coloring is off.

As an avid predator hunter. That is definitely a coyote.

could possibly be a coydog, sorry don't know how that's spelled, but they are in CT & NY , mass and NH & the eastern states i hear, but it sure does not look like the coyotes here in AZ, so my guess is coydog,

Interesting! I never considered that. That is quite possible! All the coyotes I've seen around here are very light in color that's why this "thing" had me baffled.

i just looked up coydog pictures and i saw some that looked just like your pics,& most of them had that red coloring.! check it out

Coy wolf. Awesome creatures! I had one that was red and he'd come out and we would have conversations during the day. He was always "alone" although coy wolfs are not loners. I didn't see any of his buddies up close. Although I did see a coyote running across the road towards my place that was quite a bit bigger than the coy wolf and was gray colored.

It's rare to see a coy wolf. They are considered to be VERY smart and VERY anti-social.
