Is this a good idea?

agree... I use the fish oil tab supplements instead of the "old-fashioned" cod liver oil as is (in principle) more "pure" with less risk of gizzerozine toxicity or rancidity issues that accompany the codliver oil once it is open.
I also use wheatgerm oil almost on a daily basis.
live culture yogurt I give free choice daily.

Take this the way it is intened: to show the truth. You talk of Gizzerosine caused by cod liver oil? That is not correct it is caused by fish meal, fish neal is the grinding up of the entire fish, bones and all and heated to severe temps cause the conditioin you speak of. Cod liver oil is not fish meal and does not cause Gezzerosine. As you see in the insert, pure liquid cod liver oil is 100% pure and free of mercury. As far as becoming rancid, if you use it in the amounts that would be beneficial to you it would not go rancid that is an old outcome when this product was not handled or packaged properly.

I am a cerified nutritionsit and we believe that the pure liquid form is most beneficial since it is assimilated quicker and bottom line it is most cost effective. The same amount of oil in one bottle would be in essence 4-5 bottles of capsules.
Just some FYI for anyone considering taken or administering to their chickens. You would have to feed your chickens an awful lot of any substance mentioned here to cause illness. Since we are feeding them minute amounts I see no cause for alarm

Gizzerosine was identified as the causative substance for gizzard erosion in broilers. Gizzerosine is formed by a reaction between the 3 amino group of lysine with free histidine during the heating of fish meal. The amount of heat to which fish meal is exposed during the drying process is critical in the formation of gizzerosine. Fish meals heated to 130E C or higher are more likely to cause gizzard erosion

Only cod fish caught during the winter and early spring are used, as the liver oil content is highest at this time of year. The oil is separated from the liver tissues without the use of chemicals. To insure freshness of Cod Liver Oil, the air inside the glass bottle has been replaced with nitrogen.
THIS PRODUCT is regularly tested (using AOAC international protocols) for freshness, potency and purity by an independent, FDA-registered laboratory and has been determined to be fresh, fully potent and free of detectable levels of mercury, cadmium, lead, PCB's and 28 other contaminants.

Thank you, now you decide

You are very welcome. Sometimes we get carried away and think we have to watch every litttle thing we feed them.
If we watched everything we put in our mouths we would all be healthy.
We just do the best we can. I love my chickens, and everthing I feed them I am in actuality feeding myself, and I feed myself Lemon flavored cod liver oil and in the amounts we feed our flock there is no way we can hurt them.
Everything in moderation.

Let us just love our chickens and each other.
