Is this a gosling or a duckling?

Quote:
Yeah, after doing some quick research that is what I have come to conclude as well. But males and females appear the same, don't they? Even as adults they look really similar right? This is my first time having any poultry, so I know nothing about sexing.

As adults, the male will be similar to a mallard male, just not nearly as brightly colored. The male will have a greenish tint to his beak, brown body and He will have a greenish darker head, more orange legs and a little curl near the base of his tail. If it is a girl, she will be almost one solid brown color with khaki colored legs.

This isn't the best pic, I am sure others have better pics, but this is my male Khaki Campbell, Willis. he is in the front of the pond, that is my goose Gretchen taking a nappy.

We have to do extra cleaning because Gretchy and Willis frequently bathe in there, but we do have a UV filter on it which keeps the algae out. The algae still collects on the waterfall rocks, so we have to scrub them sometimes, but inside of the pond has never had any algae. When we do clean it, we take out the filter and spray it down to get all the goose and duck poop out of it and if it is really dirty, we drain it down a bit and scrub the liner with a clean wash cloth. We haven't cleaned it in about 2 months months, but it is still pretty clean...Gretch has been on the nest so that cuts down a lot. So if you don't have any extra swimmer, it should be fine, but I do recommend the UV filter. my husband has a pond business. He designs and installs custom koi ponds and water gardens!! This is the smallest pond we have ever had. It isn't much maintenance, I have 3 Koi in there too!

Here is a pic of what it looks like this year and there is another pic of Willis for you Ravenstorm!

Here is another pic of Willis, You can kind of see the green on his beak and you can see the orange legs well.

hi...how deep is it?...i'd love to put coy in mine when we build it!..but in New Englad..the water has to be a certain dept for them in the winter...ooh..i bet the flowing water will stop it from freezing in our winters?...Wendy

You want it 18 inches or deeper, but up there you may want to go with 24 right off the bat.....the koi will go down to the bottom and be dormant for the winter.
Ours is a little over 3 feet..I think like 28" or so and it is from front to back about 3 feet and side to side 4 feet. The rocks around the outside make a little ledge in the water and the fish go under the ledges for shade and to hide from gretchen and Willis, although the fish are way to big for them to bother.
