I purchased some BBS Ameraucana from someone who got their parent birds from farm(s) that only produced BBS Ameraucana. One of these babies I thought was splash but as it’s growing out it really looks lavender to me. I’ve talked to the breeder who supplied my birds and he’s seen no lavender. Is it possible to have the lavender gene in there and not have it show up in the parent or grandparent birds or is this little one a splash that is pulling a fast one on me. Thanks for any input! The baby in question is about 7-8 weeks old. The last pic is showing its hatch mates.

A lavender can show up out of nowhere in a BBS line if the lavender gene was introduced in it at some point.
Lavender is recessive so one copy of the gene can get passed forwards sight unseen for generations and generations. It takes two copies to show so if both parents carry it and the chick inherits a copy from both parents then it would be lavender.
That said I don't believe that one is lavender.

Thank you all so much. You’ve really eased my mind. Also, that’s fascinating about it being recessive and showing up after generations. Fascinating. Thank you for sharing!
