Last week, I introduced a new EE pullet to my little flock of three. The first two days they were together, I monitored them closely, today was the first day I left them together in the coop, unsupervised, while I was at work.
She is a very submissive bird, and runs right away when they show her any aggression. There has not been any serious bullying, mostly chasing, and if they get the chance, they grab a beak-full of her feathers, but she's pretty evasive. When I let them all out to range, she just goes off by herself, it makes me feel sad for her.
None of that is the odd part though. What seems strange is, one place she will "hide" from the others is the roost, and when she does, two of my girls are content to forget she exists, but my little Silkie mix (formerly bottom of the pecking order) will roost right across from her and stare her down. Like, as far as I can tell, indefinitely. When I got home from work today, they were both there, and that is where I keep catching them. Is it normal for her to camp out like that? I am afraid the poor girls aren't eating or drinking when I am not around to make sure.
