Is This a Pip?

Ok, the egg. Good news and bad news. Good news is that I see a pip. The pip was face down on the ground because the chick probably shifted the egg when he was still in the incubator. Bad news is that it's also on the wrong end of the egg. Since he was still moving I think he might still be alive, so I'll see if he can push out his beak before thinking of helping him out. I ground up the crumble for the chick and he seems to have a better chance of eating it. I had no choice but to put it near the heat side because he always hangs out in that corner (95 degrees).

Food processor works fine.

Pip at the wrong end is almost always bad news. You will probably have to assist or let it die. Even if you do assist, you might still need to cull it if it has problems.

I took out a little bit of shell around the pip area but I'm not sure if I should break the membrane. Is that a bad idea? I could just help with the zip instead

Is the membrane still white or is it beginning to discolour? If it's turning brown, the chick is probably shrink wrapped and you will need to break the membrane. If it sill looks white and flexible I would give it a few more hours.

It's white and flexible so far, but the center of the pip is a darker color, almost a green hue. Is that not a good sign? It was moving this morning.

It sounds like it's drying out. It's up to you at this point if you want to assist or not. Is it still moving? If you tap on the egg, do you hear a response from inside?

I don't hear a response but I can see the egg move sometimes. I make a zip but didn't open the membrane. It's still white and flexible. I'll give him an hour and see if he makes progress.

I cut a little hole in the membrane but unfortunately I don't think he's alive anymore. I can see part of his body but he isn't moving. 2 hairs came out too even though that probably didn't cause that much damage. I'm going to give him a bit before removing some more of the shell.

I don't think this one made it :( he isn't moving inside and there's more blood. I stopped peeling the membrane but he isn't responding. The membrane is white but it's hard to get through, do you think he was shrinkwrapped?
I've got another egg that I just candled and it looked developed, but no pip yet.
