Is this a prolapse or egg bound?

I found this Whiting True Blue hen crouched in the corner this morning. She is about 1y and 9 months old. I soaked her backend in warm water (very dirty with feces and sawdust) and tried to push everything back in. I also used hydrocortisone cream. She just pushes everything back out. I have her isolated in a dog crate on a towel with a cup of water and she is in the heated garage. Is there anything I can do? I read about calcium citrate if she is egg bound. I do not see nor feel an egg though but I suppose it could be inside. I am new to chickens. She doesn’t seem to want to drink anything. Tried putting her beak in some water even. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you!

Yes, it looks like a prolapse.

You are doing what I would try. Keep the tissue moist with your ointment you don't want it drying out. Soaks are o.k. is she is not too stressed or lethargic, but if she's really weak, then providing a bit of warmth like a heating pad on low may be better if she's laying down any.
Looks almost like the intestine is also prolapsing out. Are you seeing any waste come out at all?

The extra calcium can help with retention if you ever get it back in. Sometimes the swelling is too great for all that tissue to go back in. It's possible she may have an egg in there or soft shelled egg she's needing to expel.
Sometimes a prolapse can be corrected over the course of a few days. Sometimes it's not fixable which can be heartbreaking, I've been there on that too.

Thank you for replying. Yes, it seems like there is an awful lot coming out (comparing to other pics I see of prolapsed). 😞

I would use an ointment or oil, since a cream may not last as long. Honey can reduce swelling by osmotic pressure. It has to be kept moist and not dry out. The black part may have dried some. Try pushing back inside often. Give a calcium tablet or Tums today. It can take days sometimes for the prolapse to stay in.

I will try olive oil instead and some honey. Yes, I believe the blackish tissue may be drier. I will try some Tums. Thank you 😊

Here's my article on treating prolapse. https://www.backyardchickens.com/ar...ng-from-vent-prolapse-oh-my-what-to-do.76124/ This is a crisis. Hang in there. It will resolve with care and attention.
Thank you! She doesn’t seem to be getting better. I gave her some crushed Tums (she did peck and eat this) last night and soaked her in warm water last evening. She seems to be getting weaker as she is sitting like a penguin (or trying to get an egg out) and bracing herself up against the side of the dog kennel. I have to dip her beak in water for her to drink. She is excreting some feces. I put olive oil on the exposed tissues after bathing.
