Is this a prolapse! Please help!!

Hello,

I was cleaning out my chickens and noticed that one of the older ones has something queer hanging out of the vent, I gave her a bit of an inspection and it's definitely not poop.

Does it look like a prolapse?? Please help!!

Yes doesn't look like a prolapse. Looks like egg material sticking out. You could help her pass it by massaging the vent with some lubricant or she might just poop it all the way out.

Thanks, I've noticed when she poops this doesn't come out with it? Also, should I be trying to remove it somehow? Would a gentle pull do it? Obviously stopping if she showed pain!!
Also I noticed the others taking a lot of notice of the red patch, should I isolate her for a while?

Yes I would isolate her until this has been excreted fully. The last thing you need is the other chickens pecking at her vent.
Try gently pulling it and if it doesn't shift easily, apply vaseline or oil to the vent and try to massage it out.

What type of oil? Just olive oil???

Olive oil, coconut oil, mineral oil, or just vegetable cooking oil will do.

Thanks all for your help, with a bit of gentle tugging, oiling and a few clucks she was much happier! I did bath her as well, to get rid of the gunk stuck around her vent and she now seems to be well on the way to recovery!!
