I have a BSL pullet, BUT recently she seems to have be growing tail plumage and a larger comb. She is about 5-6 months of age and has not laid yet. She is definately top bird in the flock. She even rules my two roos (RIR & BR), she will grab them by the comb and swing them around in circles if they have the nerve to challenge her. They all give her wide berth. I have heard of chickens taking the place of the rooster and taking on the physical characteristics if none are around, but like I said, I have two.

This is her running off the neighbors cat, like I said, she is a great guardian of the flock...

She also has two little bumps on he legs like spurs are growing in. Any thoughts would be appreciated!

I just sold my BSL cockeral, so no pics. BUT a BSL cockeral is barred, yours is a hen. I bet she'll start laying real soon, if she hasn't already. Have you looked around? Maybe she's hiding the eggs from you and not laying in the nest box.

She's the right color to be a black sex link hen. A BSL rooster should be barred, right?

She does look like she has a funny little curled tail feather though....lol.....

Sometimes a hen can take over from a Roo in being the guardian.... am sure I have read somewhere of a sex hange in a hen also.............. possibily this culd be your next question to the member... good luck

OK, cool. So I'm assuming the wierd tail feather that I took as plumage starting, is normal with them (going by yours too). I just had never seen one(a BSL) before and had nothing to compare her too. THANKS!

She looks just like BSL. What's strange is that she is the broodiest bird of the whole lot. She will out brood my cochins and silkies hands down.
Very pretty hen you have there
