Is this a pure Ameraucana?

and appearance will be that of an Ameraucana, just wrong color and ineligible for entries.

The wrong color of "Ameraucana" does not make it ineligible for entries. As a show secretary, you can enter any easter egger you want under the term, "ameraucana" and most
4-Hers do not know any better because they are told thats what they are by hatcheries. Then when they show up to coop in, you find out they are an EE. Doesnt matter. They still go in the same class, but of course, if they do not show the basic Ameraucana traits, muffs, beards, slate legs and pea combs, they will get disqualified. However, if the bird has all Ameraucana traits and just is the wrong color, that bird can still get Best of Breed but cannot compete any higher with it being a non recognized "color". Every show I have attended I see EE's entered.

EE's are allowed at some 4-h levels, but if you go to an APA or ABA sanctioned show they should be disqualified. There is a class called AOV (all other varieties) that breeders show nonapproved colors in, but they are real colors that are being developed like splash, lavender and black gold. They are not just offspring of two birds thrown together to see what happens.

Just because someone gets a blue ribbon on an easter egger at the 4-h level does not mean a bird is show quality either.

No, hun, she is an easter egger. There are no hatcheries that sell real ameraucanas.

It takes alot of space to have seperate breeding pens for all the colors, so it is probably counterproductive for them to do so and keep their costs so low.

Ok, so just for educational purposes...I know the more red one is not an Ameraucana b/c she doesn't have muffs, but what about the black one? She has the beard/muffs and very dark (slate?) legs, not green. Would her color disqualify her? Or is it what I've heard people refer to as red-black (or black-red)? Just wondering...

Ok, thanks! She looks similar, but I think I can see the difference in pattern. I love her anyways...I'd love her more if she'd lay some darn eggs!
