First time hatching eggs. They are under a broody . Today is day 7 and I candled. Took out the ones that were obviously not doing anything. But found 1 that I thought was a blood ring. I'm a total newbie. I opened it to see what was inside and found this. Can you tell if it quit or did I kill it by opening?

Crap, I hope it was already dead. When I candled I didn't see any veining, I could see the eye, but no movement. And out had a reddish looking band going around the inside.
In the others I could see veining, movement or both . And no other had a reddish band around it. Ugh

Dont feel bad. My first hatch I took iut one that I thought had quit. I watched its little heart stop beating. I vowed right then to never take them out unless they were obviously infertile at lockdown and I old mess with broody birds after they have chirping babies for 24 hours.

I tossed out an egg just the other day that I was 99% sure was a quitter. I could see the embryo inside, but no veining. It just floated around from side to side when I candles it, but no movement of the embryo itself. I was correct when I broke it open. It hadn't been gone long enough to develop a blood ring yet. It looked EXACTLY like yours if that makes you feel any better. Also, for future reference, at this stage if they are still alive you can see their little heart pumping. Don't ask me how I know :hmm
