This is my first hatch in a homemade incubator. This is day 17. I started with 12 fertile eggs and found a blood ring in one egg. Down to 11 now. I’ve seen movement in 10/11. The photos are of egg # 11. I think the chick may be large and not moving. But I see these odd dark spots. Your thoughts please.

Yes, I think you are right. If you can't see any veins and the developing chick looks very black with yellow liquid above rather than having a reddish glow then I'd say it has died. It's good to have others to compare it with.

If in any doubt there's no harm in leaving it in and checking again on day 19 to see if there have been any changes. You don't need to be concerned about opening the incubator unless you have pips.

Good luck with your hatch. Hopefully you'll have lots of cuties soon.

Are you referring to the first two pics or the last pic? I didn’t mean to include the 3rd pic of the blood ring.

The first two. I keep eggs in until I'm absolutely certain. Last hatch I had one I thought was an early blood ring as it seriously looked like one but I left it in just in case. Good thing I did because it hatched out just fine. So if you are on the fence (as it can be hard to tell from photos) leave it in and check again. But if you think it looks significantly different to your other eggs and you definitely can't see any veins under the air cell then I'd say it's a quitter.
