I have a light Brahma pullet that I raised from a chick since March of this year. She has started laying soft shelled eggs for the past week or so, well today she was acting a bit off. I hovered around her after bringing them in from free ranging and she proceeded to lay in my hand two shelless eggs, the last one had a cord like thing off the end of it. After dissecting the eggs I noticed each yolk had an odd white dot in them, I have no roosters. I have been giving her Tums/calcium crushed up in all flock crumble since I noticed she was the one laying the soft shells. They have free access to crushed oyster shells and are given a mix of all flock and layer feed mushed as I have mixed agges in the coop. Can someone tell me if she is just trying to get the egg laying routine down or is this the beginning of a more serious issue? Thanks!

She laid TWO shell-less eggs IN YOUR HAND?!? Wow, that is AMAZING!!! I definitely want to follow this thread!:th
She has not laid one in the nesting boxes yet. She just stops, stares and pops them out anywhere! They were not even 5-10 minutes apart!!! I hope she is just getting her organs working, she is a great girl.

Typical of a softie moving down the tract.
Not sure about the large blastoderm.
Probably just start up glitches.

Not sure why you'd mix tums into the feed if you have mixed ages.
How are you offering OS?
I'd toss some out onto the ground.

I only offer her the tums mix. The crushed oyster is in a feeder and a fence hung container. I have ages ranging from 2 months, 3ish and her along with another pullet her age.
