Is this a show quality silkie

    I've seen much worse! In a show, you will see ones more like this (that do well.)

    Yes, I think average would be fair, but I would probably say "Not bad" for a backyard silkie.

    Probably not, but then I'm no expert on either Silkies (although I've had some) or show quality birds (although I've had a pair of Mille Fleur D'Uccles that one best of breed in the Hunt County fair; no one was more surprised than I was). I would suggest posting your picture on our Exhibition, Genetics, and Breeding to the Standard of Perfection section at https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/16188/exhibition-genetics-breeding-to-the-standard-of-perfection. Our breeding and show experts there should be able to tell you in a heartbeat whether or not your Silkie is good enough to show.
