Is this an Ameraucana?

A friend of ours gave us this young hen, she's about 4 months old and hasn't started laying yet. He said he got her from the local ag supply store and was told she was an Ameraucana, but she doesn't look like your typical Ameraucana so we think she may be an Ameraucana crossed with something else, or not one at all! Any ideas?

She looks like an Easter Egger which is an Ameraucana mix. What color egg does she lay?

Easter Egger. We have four of them and one looks very similar to yours. The fact that she came from a store makes it highly unlikely that she's a true Ameraucana. She's gorgeous, by the way!

You're welcome. So far, only two of ours are laying, and they both lay green eggs. I hope you get your colored eggs!

She's an Easter Egger which is basically a mix carrying the blue egg gene.

EEs and Ameraucanas are always being mixed up by stores and sometimes hatcheries. Your bird is an EE.

True Ameraucanas are considerably more expensive than Easter Eggers and are quite rare. We got our two from Meyer Hatchery, which is, I believe, the only hatchery that carries them. Even then, I basically had to stalk the website, lie in wait, then pounce when they came available.
