7 two week old chicks, first time I’ve seen this color in poop before. found this from overnight on top of the heat plate.

I sorted through the pine flakes in the brooder and didn’t find another one like it. all 7 chicks are busy, active, eating and exploring as usual.

Your chicks are healthy and doing splendidly. That little bit of color in a very, very normal chick poop is just a tiny spot of intestinal lining which is normal to see once in a while.

Blood in poop shows up usually as a ruby red blood clot. There's not much question, from the deep red color, you're looking at blood. Also, if that were to happen, it happens in poop that is watery and loose, and the chick that pooped it would most likely be listless and fluffed up and obviously acting sick.

@azygous oh my goodness. thank you SO much for this quick and very detailed reply. I really appreciate you laying out the differences between normal and not normal. that is a tremendous help to beginners who don’t know what we’re looking at!

It is likely normal shedding of intestinal lining. Chicks that age are vulnerable to coccidiosis, so continue to keep an eye on them and their poop.

Unrelatedly, 7-week-old chicks generally don't need any heat at all since they should be fully feathered at this point.
thank you so much, that really helps me feel better! I have had that top of mind constantly which is why I was worried to see anything out of the ordinary! they are 2 weeks old, 7 chicks.
