Hello!

I've had some Rhode Island Reds & Orpingtons sit in nests all day and make dragon sounds at me when I took eggs out. I thought that was broody and they seemed to just get on with life.

Well...........I have a cuckoo marans that has been hanging out in a nest box 24/7 for days. I finally started taking her out because I thought maybe she was sick. She is totally puffed up and lunges at me. Today I noticed she is completely bald on her chest (feathers in all the nest boxes).

Is THIS broodiness or is she really sick? Will she just get going again on her own do I need to do something? She's acting WAY different than any of my other hens that I thought were broody.

Ok - thanks for the answers!

So, I put her outside in one of the runs and shut the coop door. She has food and water and a shelter and is used to that run. She's still puffed up and is pooping a strange-looking green color? She is trying to get in and occasionally flaps her wings and let's out a horrible squawk.

I don't want her to hatch chicks right now, so I'm going to try to get her back to normal.

If you think all of this still sounds like broody instead of sick then I'll go read up on how to break her out of it.

Thanks!
