Thanks again i soaked the foot and wrapped it the best I could. The whole area feels rock hard... I'm assuming that means the pus or whatever on the inside has solidified?

No, what it means is you are feeling the "kernel" ... it HAS to come out....it will only get worse, and he's such a beautiful roo. I applaud you for going the extra mile to fix him up. Watch and re-watch that video to get the feel of what you're going to do. Make sure you have a helper with you. Surprisingly he really won't feel much of anything in the way of pain when you cut it out of there. Once you're "in" make sure you get that kernel and all the pus/gunk you can get out of it. pipthepeep, I have dealt with this and the rear toe is for running and parching and given the chance the claw can grow back but if you go cutting he may never get one again ...

If it is dry where you are you might want to let it air dry and if damp then for sure keep it wrapped up ......

Sigh, I was hoping there would be a resounding consensus on the best course of action! Gander, are you thinking this is something other than bumblefoot? Or that you were able to successfully treat a similar case of bumblefoot on the toe using only the Epsom salts? I just want to make sure I am understanding the different opinions on what I should do. Thanks again to everyone!

Sorry no I am not seeing bumble foot and I know I should take a photo of bumble foot next time I have a chick or chicken with bumble foot you just have a Rooster with dry shanks and toes with a missing rear claw nothing life threating or threatening just uncomfortable to say the least and yes I have a Molted Houdan Rooster who did the same thing fighting with our Guinea Roo and he recovered by soaking him in Epson salt and now he again cut his foot on something wile chasing around one of the EE young Roo's but this Rooster is just anti social but his feet recover and still no bumble foot as bumble foot will cause limping and you said your Rooster is not having this problem .........

But you do have topical scale separation of a three year old or plus Rooster so I would just soak him in the Epson salt and watch him but no cutting he wont like that much and might run from you ......

So I have been soaking his foot in diluted betadine and Epsom salts once daily for the last ten days. About 6 days ago, I added Tricide Neo soaks to the foot care regimen, with twice daily soaks per the instructions. Within two days of starting the Tricide Neo, the scab softened up and popped off. It didn't have any odor to it, but it did have a small, hard yellow kernel attached to the middle, maybe the size of two grains of rice. So I continued soaking and the scab has been getting steadily lighter and smaller... But the swelling is totally unchanged- hard, but not even the slightest bit warm. Here us a picture from this morning- it looks even a little better after tonight's soak... How concerned should I be if the scab disappears but the swelling remains? Whenever the scab comes off, which seems to be every few days, the tissue underneath looks healthy to me...

Ok, hearing some great things about this for bumble foot...Drawing Salve Ichtammol Ointment. Anyone ever try this?
