The baseline will suffocate them after you get the crust off, that's why you need to continue the vase line even after the crust starts to come off.

Castor oil lasts longer than some of the oils. Don't scrub with the toothbrush very hard, just very gently, and only once a week. I wouldn't do anything for the toe except maybe spray with BluKote or put some iodine on it.

subhanalah, I will watch for them to start coming lose ..I look at their legs again this morning and they are so clean I had to laugh ..we are just getting rid of the snow and frozen ground and now it rains everyday .ugh.I have straw in their run so they don't get so muddy , but they turn it to dirty mud in no time ..they just turn it up really fast ..I washed them all again last nite and the one with the toe trouble freaked right out when I tried touching it ..i think i'll get something to put on it like eggcessive said ..blukote..



i have to say tho , all the other girls legs look pretty good ..altho i think they all need treated , i don't think its real bad ..when compared to the pics I've seen of other birds ..my birds don't look to bad..i was really worried about the toe ..i think she may have just broke it off ..but the bump on the side had me worried.




eggcessive, thanks I found that thread last nite and started reading it ..theres so much reading ..i spent the whole last yr reading on here and other sites before i even signed up .and i bet i could spend another yr reading and still not have enough info on these girls....i will only wash their feet then once a week unless they get real nasty again ..not sure how i will keep them from getting that muddy again ..its still pretty muddy and as fast as i put new straw down they turn it up ..lol i'll look for blukote today at the tractor store ..i have toget woodchips and chick feed ..my new babys are coming tomorrow ..got my wife thinking i have gone overboard , you would think she gets it ..after all shes the one that pointed me to the thread on chick math..lol
