Is this coccidiosis or something else? WARNING: POOP PICTURE

Three of my chicks are acting really lethargic, not eating much, and sort of sleeping standing up. One of them dropped this this morning. ONe of the others is pooping normally, and the third one I haven't been able to confirm yet.

I separated the three sick ones as soon as I noticed they were sick. I was really worried about them so first thing this morning I went out to get fresh bedding and medication. I've started them on sulphamezathine and given them chick feed mixed with a good quality live culture yogurt. Please let me know if I'm doing the right thing or if there's more I can do for them.

I'm also treating the ones that aren't showing symptoms yet to be safe.

How old are they?

It sounds like you are doing what you can. Keep them hydrated and make sure their medicated water is the only source of water available.

When the have completed their course of treatment, add some poultry vitamins to their water for a couple of days.

looks like you are doing everything right. I can't really tell if it is blood or not in the picture but I would keep an eye on everyone if you do find bloody stool it could be cocci and would want to treat for it. good luck

Thank you so much, I'm worried sick. They're about 5 weeks old. The medicated water is the only water available to them right now. And for the sick ones, they've got plenty in the box I've put them in, but I'm feeding it to them with a syringe every couple of hours just to be sure they're actually drinking it because they mostly seem to just be standing in a corner all fluffed up and sleeping.

Thanks. That particular one was a little more orange than the others, but it was the only fresh one I could get a picture of. If you look really closely there is a red speck of blood in it too. Since they've been separated they've made more red poops. I can take another picture if that would help.

I've thoroughly cleaned the coop with ACV, sprinkled it with DE and put fresh bedding. Is that enough or is there another product i should use to make sure the infection doesn't come back?

what medication are you using since this definitely to me at least sounds like coccidiosis anytime I've heard of friends chickens getting it I always make sure to suggest corrid v as it works very well

I'm may be mistaken but I think the Sulphamezathine is similar to Sul-met (Sul-Met), Sulfa-Max, SulfaSure (Sodium Sulfamethazine) which can be used to treat certain strains of Coccidiosis. Some drugs are not available and may be called by a different name in certain parts of the world.

Corid helps control all strains of Cocci found in poultry, so it is more widely used, especially in the U.S. IF your chicks don't improve after treating them several days with the Sulphamezathine, then trying to find some Corid may be a good idea.

@CTKen is probably much more familiar with meds that are available in Africa, so hopefully he may drop by for some input.
