We are complete chicken noobs. We have had our 5 since April this year. Today we were looking at our Ameraucana and are wondering if this is some sort of pox? ....or is this normal?
I'm thinking it is a he, but a complete picture from the side showing any saddle feathers would help. He/she is actually an easter egger, a great breed that is 1/2 ameraucana, 1/2 something else. That is the most common color pattern for pullets, so it may well be a she. Look at this link for sexing tips for EE's: http://naturalchickenkeeping.blogspot.com/2013/06/gender-bender-how-to-sex-easter-eggers.html
No change in "it's" comb today. We're keeping an eye on it. At the risk of getting off track, here are some more pictures of her.....him....it. If that is helpful in the sexing of this bird.
That's typical pullet patterning in Easter Eggers (often misrepresented/sold as "Ameraucana") and, I agree, that does not look like pox, more like superficial damage from pecking, etc.
