We have a 10x20 dog pen being used as a run. We are going to wrap the bottom layer with hardware mesh to prevent predators from reaching through the dog fence.. We are also going to use it for an apron around the entire pen to prevent digging into.

Would that suffice or will raccoons and other critters be able to dig through that?
Secondly what would yall suggest for covering the run as raccoons/possums can easily climb the side?

Thanks in advance.

Looks good, that’s what I used when I built my chicken run, except for I bought 4 foot wide rolls.

I also put hardware cloth on the top and then I roofed it for shade and protection from the rain.

Looks pretty standard. I would advise buying 4' wide rolls if those are available, so you can put 2' up the side and 2' out for apron. It is a little inconvenient to have to fold it into the L shape but adds more security to have both the side and apron as a single piece.

Thanks all for the information. I took your advice and ordered the 48inch. A few extra minutes(we hope) but sounds like it'd be a lot safer.

We also plan on using this for the roof after installing some cross supports and a partial cover from the elements.

Any more suggestions are more than welcome.

Do you live in a residential area or out in the country? How many chickens are you going to have and what size is your coop going to be? Just keep in mind that most of those creatures you mentioned come out at night, so if you make your coop the most secure out of everything, hopefully you won’t have a problem because they will all be locked in safe until the morning.
