is this EE (possibly Ameraucana) a pullet or roo? CONFIRMATION, pg 6!

No way, that's great! From everything I've read, red in the face at 8-12 weeks means male. You give me a little more hope that I get to name him "Soleil"

EEs are sooooo confusing. Recently I saw a thread where someone was trying to determine their EEs' sexes. The one that absolutely everyone voted pullet (no comb, no rooster feathers at 15 weeks or something), turned out to be a roo!

Oh the suspense

"looking like a dinosaur" LOL!!

I like this thread. Good looking chicken, no matter what it turns out to be.

Oh, they look so good!!!! What was I thinking when I sold you Esme!?!?! She is STUNNING! I am so glad that you were able to help her through her rough spell - she looks so healthy now.

Well, as the woman who sold you Soleimon as a she, I am voting PULLET! Of course I am, but it is a little bit more than just hoping that I didn't sex this bird wrong (and I really hope I didn't do that...). My hope is that this little GIRL that you have is a blue and silver version of another pullet that I have who is out of the same flock as your Soleimon here. This is Viv, a cherished member of our mixed flock - hatched out by a broody last fall. I see a lot of the same feather patters at work here in these two birds, just different colors, plus the comb that is a cross of pea and single - so looks like an extra large, sloppy pea comb.

I must warn you though. I couldn't WAIT for Viv here to start laying, as I suspect that she is a cross between an Ameraucana and a Black Copper Marans and I was looking froward to nice olive green eggs. Well, after waiting ALL winter for her to gift us with her first egg, it came and it was brown. Spotted, which is super cute, but not what I had amped myself up for. So, if you do have a sister to Viv there and she does follow in her footsteps, then, well.....

I was staring out over my flock of 3-4 month old boys and comparing them to your blue one, Morgan, and I noticed that not a single one of the EE cockerels who looks similar to your bird has clean wings - they all have the same color that is in their hackles coming in on the tops of their wings also. Does Soleimon have the silver color that is coming in on the neck and chest also coming in on the tops of the wings? I don't see it in the photos, which gives me even more hope for a pullet.

Hi Megan!

He does have a little silver coming out on his wings, but it's hardly noticeable and doesn't seem to be progressing much. However, today as he was snoozing on my lap, I parted the poof on his lower back and noticed the unmistakable emergence of saddle feathers.

At least I THINK they're saddle feathers. I'll be posting update pics once I hunt down my camera ...

On another note, he does look like Viv! I wonder if they're related. But it's that third pic you posted that really got my attention. See that chicken behind her with the silver lacing on her neck? It looks SUPER similar to Soleimon to me, right down to the beak shape and coloration, and the shmutz down its breast. What's the story on that that guy?

Hope it's as nice down in Hamilton as it is here in Missoula!
